How the IBAN is built in Spain
The IBAN (International Bank Account Number) in Spain has 24 characters. It starts with the country code ES, followed by two check digits. The BBAN part (Basic Bank Account Number) then holds the bank code (4 digits, positions 5 to 8 of the IBAN) and the account number (10 digits, positions 15 to 24). Between the bank code and the account number there are 6 further digits (for example a branch code or check character).
Finding the BIC for Spain
For Spain our database holds 155 banks. When you enter a valid Spain IBAN, we automatically find the BIC/SWIFT code and the bank name. For smaller or newer institutions there may be no entry; the IBAN is still valid in that case.
